Educators at Greenlight
Greenlight is proud to work with educators and schools in Brooklyn and beyond! Here's a bit of what we do.
Greenlight can provide a uniquely curated selection of books for school book fairs. We work with schools on developing a title list appropriate for students’ reading levels, price range, and special interests, and arrange for book drop-off or staffing. Greenlight donates a percentage of book fair profits back to the school.
Greenlight is often able to work with publishers to bring authors to speak at schools, and handle sales of the author's book to students. Many award-winning children's authors are local to Brooklyn, and there is no better way to get kids excited about books than through a presentation with a live author! And these visits are FREE - when you arrange visits through the bookstore, there is no honorarium involved. We will offer students the opportunity to purchase authors' books before and during their visit. Author visits take some coordination, so please talk to us as early as possible if you are looking for an author for a specific date, or if you have a range of dates available.
School Book Talks
Greenlight booksellers are available to speak by appointment to students of any grade about exciting new and classic books appropriate to their reading level. A presentation by our knowledgeable and passionate booksellers is a great way to get kids excited about books, especially before a fundraiser or author event.
Library or Classroom Wish List
For schools working on stocking their library or classrooms with books, Greenlight can create a page on the bookstore's e-commerce website with the school's book wishlist. The list can be provided to parents or other donors, who can purchase books online to be delivered to the school.
Summer Reading / Required Reading Lists
Schools or individual teachers can contact Greenlight to register their summer reading lists or other required reading lists, and Greenlight will make sure to have copies of all books on the list available. We can also post the lists on our website. Students get a 10% discount at Greenlight, so parents can affordably fill their kids' reading lists in one stop (or buy online) while supporting a local bookstore.
Greenlight can set aside a day, weekend, or other period as a fundraising period for your school. Shoppers who mention the school's name while checking out at Greenlight during the fundraising period will have 20% off their purchase donated back to the school, supporting both the school and their local bookstore. Some restrictions and blackout dates apply.
For more information about any of these programs, please email Greenlight's Special Projects Coordinator Emily Russo at email@example.com.
